Genie Opener Logic Board Repair: The Sherman Oaks Owner’s Guide

We replace Genie opener logic boards in Sherman Oaks for $180-$290 installed, and in most cases we’re out the same day with the board on the truck. The part itself runs $90-$170 depending on your Genie’s age and series, and labor is quoted before we touch a screw. You’ll usually know it’s the board when your opener stops responding to remotes and wall buttons at the same time, or when it starts chattering relays and running the motor on its own.

Call (747) 359-3554

The typical call goes like this: the wall button works but the remote doesn’t, so you replace remote batteries. Then you reprogram the remote. Then you notice the wall button works sometimes, or the opener runs for half a second and quits, or the lights flicker when the unit should be idle. That’s the logic board telling you it’s done making decisions. It’s the brain, not the muscle. The motor and gears rarely fail first. The board does.

Which Genie Models This Applies To

The logic board is the printed circuit board inside the powerhead, the part that reads signals from your remotes, wall console, and safety sensors, then tells the motor what to do. Genie has used different board generations across their line, and they don’t all swap. A board from a 2009 Genie IntelliG 1000 will not run a 2019 Genie StealthDrive. The connector layout changed, and the frequency hopping changed with it.

The boards we keep stocked cover the older TriloG, IntelliG, and PowerMax lines, plus the newer ChainMax, QuietLift, StealthDrive, and ReliaG series. If you have a screw-drive Genie from the 2000s, the board for that unit is a different animal than the belt-drive models from the last decade. The fastest way to identify what you have is the model number on the label inside the light cover, plus the board’s own stamped revision number. We’ll match both. If the original board is no longer made, we use a quality aftermarket equivalent that’s pin-compatible and carries its own warranty. Otto’s Garage Door is an independent local shop, so we’re not tied to any Genie part number. We just want the right one in your opener.

Signs Your Genie Opener Logic Board Is Failing

  • Remotes and wall button both go dead at once. The motor is fine, but nothing is receiving or interpreting signals. That’s the board, not the remote, not the batteries.
  • The opener runs for one second and stops. The board is sending power, then killing it. Sometimes it’s a jammed travel module, sometimes it’s the board’s motor-control circuit shutting down under load. Both are board-level problems.
  • The opener makes a clicking sound but the motor doesn’t move. You’re hearing relays open and close. The board is trying to send the command, but the output stage is fried. A new board fixes that in about 45 minutes.
  • The door reverses for no reason, even with clean sensors. The board is misreading the sensor input. We see this a lot in Sherman Oaks homes where afternoon heat makes one component drift out of tolerance. The board’s signal interpretation is the culprit.
  • The lights flicker or the opener runs by itself. This is the one that gets owners’ attention, and it should. A failing board can send phantom commands to the motor. If your door is moving and nobody pressed a button, unplug the unit and call us.

One more that shows up on older Genies: the door opens fine but won’t close unless you hold the wall button the whole time. That points to the board’s safety-circuit input failing. The sensor eyes are probably fine.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Sherman Oaks, a Genie logic board replacement runs $180-$290 installed. The board itself costs $90-$170 depending on the series and whether it’s OEM or a quality aftermarket match. Labor is the balance, and it’s a flat number we tell you on the phone before we leave our shop, not an estimate that changes once we’re in your driveway.

What that covers: testing the existing board to confirm the diagnosis, removing the old board, installing the replacement, programming your remotes and keypad, setting the travel limits, and testing the safety reversal. We also check the capacitor while the cover is off, because a weak capacitor will kill a new board the same way it stressed the old one. Every repair includes our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if something isn’t right, Otto comes back and makes it right. No charge, no argument, no runaround.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check the basics: unplug the unit for 60 seconds and plug it back in, replace remote batteries, and make sure the sensor eyes are lit and aligned. Those checks cost nothing and rule out the simple causes. What you should not do is remove the cover, probe the board with a multimeter, or try to swap a board yourself on a unit still plugged in. The board carries line voltage and a charged capacitor can knock you across the garage even after the opener is unplugged. We treat every opener cover removal as a live circuit until we’ve discharged the capacitor ourselves.

If you’ve ruled out the simple stuff and the symptoms still match what we described, give us a call at (747) 359-3554. Otto will ask you what the opener is doing, quote you a price on that call, and hold it when he arrives. If it turns out the board isn’t the problem, you pay only for what we actually fix.
